Simon Lindberg, who is Vice President at FLSmidth, is currently responsible for global project management within FLSmidth’s Cement division.

He participated in the Executive Management Programme, where the first module takes place in Denmark and the subsequent two modules are held at INSEAD in France. This choice was closely linked to the specific tasks and challenges he encounters in his daily work.

– My motivation for participating in the program was twofold. Firstly, due to my more practice-oriented background, I have continuously focused on furthering my education in the strategic and leadership areas. In this context, I knew that INSEAD was a strong partner. Additionally, relating to the specific development areas within FLSmidth, particularly with regard to green transition and strategic projects, I was clear that these were areas covered by the program. In other words, it fit well with the world I am engaged in.

The best teachers

The benefits and quality of the Executive Management Programme as top-notch.

He encountered some of the most exceptional instructors he has ever met during the INSEAD program, with program director Andrew Shipilov standing out as particularly remarkable. The professors are not only incredibly strong theoretically but also effectively integrate practical experience and have a deep understanding of the participants’ backgrounds, challenges, and issues. Lindberg gained substantial knowledge about green transition and digitalization, which has been especially relevant to FLSmidth’s goal of becoming a leader in these fields.

Lindberg highlights three main aspects of the program that have been particularly valuable to him. Firstly, he praises the collaboration and community with leaders from various industries as outstanding. The program provided a confidential space where participants could discuss issues and challenges and engage in mutual brainstorming, leading to continued interactions and ongoing relationships. Secondly, he emphasizes the practical tools provided for digitalization, innovation, sustainability, and strategy, which have already proven useful in his work. Finally, he expresses his appreciation for the excellent instructors he met during the program.

He concludes by noting that the program has also helped him remember to pause and reflect. It encouraged him to review his documents and revisit the tools and presentations covered during the course. This reflection inspires him to approach his work differently and ensures that he avoids falling into a routine, promoting fresh and innovative thinking.
