Spencer Harrison
Spencer Harrison is a Professor of Organizational Behavior at INSEAD and teaches on Scandinavian Executive Institute’s leadership program, Leading Strategic Change. In his research, Spencer Harrison focuses on how leaders can create the ideal conditions for people to work creatively together. His work is centered on developing optimal collaboration structures and helping Fortune 100 companies understand not only how to make their employees more skilled but also how the companies can learn from their employees. Harrison has conducted research projects in collaboration with companies such as Google, NASA, and Black Diamond.
His expertise focuses on three areas:
-
- Creating: How do leaders help people to be creative together? Professor Harrison is currently studying Grammy-winning bands, contemporary dancers, and t-shirt designers to understand how this process occurs.
-
- Coordinating: How do groups and teams work together in patterns that lead to optimal outcomes? He examines how individuals survive plane crashes, people who are incredibly passionate about their work (such as climbers and architects), and how networks of highly intelligent people working on rocket missions figure out how humans can live on Mars.
-
- Connecting: How are people connected to the organizations they work for? He works with Fortune 100 companies to determine how new hires can better adapt to their roles and how these companies can effectively learn from their new employees.
Professor Harrison’s research is recognized by the academic community, and he has received several awards. His findings have been published in esteemed journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Management.
