Advanced Board Programme INSEAD gives experienced board members and board chairmen an opportunity to get inspiration about the latest trends from INSEAD’s leading experts, as well as an opportunity to discuss difficult or inspiring issues with the other participants. Mutual inspiration is thus an important element of the program.
As a participant, you will gain new insight into several current and complex issues that boards should work on in the coming years.
You will visit four important focus areas which are reviewed with a combination of lectures, group work, discussions, and panel debates with external guests.
The teaching offers a high degree of interaction, and the participants’ own experiences, experiences and thoughts will be an important part of the programme.

Diversity and independence
Increasing diversity gives the board the opportunity to bring more points of view into play, thus ensuring a more nuanced basis for decision-making. However, different insights and different points of view create the need for increased time consumption and the risk of slower decision-making processes. However, there is a great risk that diversity will not be allowed to unfold, as the board’s traditional way of organizing its work does not provide sufficient space for these nuances to unfold. In this session, we look at how the independence and individual views of each board member can be brought into play as best as possible, and not least what each of us can do to ensure that our independence is not undermined.
New global trends
The global context in which boards must act is changing rapidly. As boards, we are faced with difficult dilemmas. In this session, we will look at how boards and companies become good at identifying the business potential of acting responsibly towards both owners and stakeholders in a broader sense. We must increasingly deal with environmental, economic, social and political trends and the board, which is the highest authority in a company, must make decisions that will have consequences for many years to come. Therefore, it is essential that we, who make these many and complex decisions, develop our tools to act and navigate in a turbulent world.
In this session, we will look at how, for example, population growth, climate change, lack of natural resources, economic globalization, political nationalism, and growing inequality will affect the individual companies and how the boards develop the right mindset to make decisions in these areas.
Strategy and uncertainty
The digital development of recent years has redefined value chains and business models with unprecedented speed, and there are no signs that the pace of change will slow down in the coming years. On the contrary. It is just one area that has changed the requirements for companies and boards.
We will therefore relate to the continued development within this area, and how it helps to set completely new requirements for how an organization works with management and organization of innovation and change.
In this session, we look at how the digital changes have an impact on the board’s work, and which strategies a board should use, so that you also manage to acquire digital expertise at this level – and thus stay at the forefront of the exciting development.
Management of the board
How is a board managed that must navigate increasing uncertainty, demands for speed and an increasing rate of change?
We look at the latest research and discuss each other’s experiences with this critical issue. We are going to take a closer look at how you, as the leader of the board, also become more skilled at collaborating with the company’s various stakeholders and how the collaboration with the day-to-day management can be developed at the same time as the board is involved in a nuanced way in the real opportunities and problems.
In other words, you get new inspiration to lead the board with a sure hand.
Through practical and interactive exercises, you will gain several important techniques for effectively managing and managing the various dynamics of a board.
